ISM response to Nevis Ensemble closure

The ISM is shocked and saddened that Nevis Ensemble has closed its doors with immediate effect.

The decision was announced on January 24 with a statement from Nevis Ensemble pointing to ‘severe funding challenges’.

The ISM membership includes those who have worked with Nevis Ensemble as employees, freelancers and ‘Fellows’. All have had their work cancelled with immediate effect.

Responding, ISM Chief Executive Deborah Annetts said, ‘This is a difficult and upsetting time for everyone associated with Nevis Ensemble, including young and freelance musicians. The ISM will do all it can to support our members who are affected by this sudden news.

The closure demonstrates the precariousness of the culture sector and is a severe blow to creativity in Scotland.’
