ISM calls on ACE to rethink funding cuts
ISM Chief Executive Deborah Annetts has voiced the music sector's serious concern about recent Arts Council England (ACE) cuts in a letter to ACE Chair Sir Nicholas Serota. The letter points out that the affected organisations are some of our flagship music providers, which significantly benefit the economy by attracting tourists to the UK, and that there is no sensible economic case for damaging organisations already struggling to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, barriers to touring caused by Brexit and the cost-of-living crisis.
The letter also makes the point that organisations such as English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and the English Folk Dance and Song Society help to carry out ACE's Let’s Create mission to make music more accessible. It concludes by asking for an urgent rethink of the funding decisions.
